How Are Wrinkles Produced?
As you age, your skin produces fewer and fewer proteins that are present in the connective tissue beneath the skin. These proteins include collagen and elastin, which are responsible for producing elasticity in your skin and keeping it firm. A reduction in these proteins caused by both, the natural aging process as well as external factors, leads to folds in the skin. These folds more commonly appear around expression lines because as you age, your skin’s flexibility is reduced, causing wrinkles, and it can’t go back to its normal appearance.
Causes of Wrinkles
Here are a few causes of the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines:

Exposure to the sun is one of the biggest culprits in causing premature aging in the form of wrinkles and fine lines. UV rays from the sun break down proteins like collagen and elastin that are found in the connective tissue under the skin. These proteins not only keep your skin supple and elastic, but they also attract water, making your skin appear full and smooth.
Not only this, but UV rays from the sun also cause damage to skin cells by forming free radicals. These free radical directly destroy and damage your skin’s cells. Thus, after sun exposure is a major culprit behind the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
Those of you who spend plenty of time under the sun are more likely to get wrinkles and fine lines earlier on in life than those who don’t.
Smoking reduces the blood supply of your skin and it also forms free radicals that directly damage your skin. This reduces the elasticity of your skin, which can result in wrinkles.
It is very common for those who smoke to look a lot older than their actual age because of wrinkles.
Dehydration is a quite common cause of fine lines and wrinkles. People who have dry skin are more likely to get wrinkles earlier on in life than those who have oily or combination skin.
When your skin is dehydrated, it is not supple or flexible. Thus, fine lines and wrinkles easily appear.
Keeping your skin hydrated and drinking lots of water is important to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Drinking alcohol leads to dehydration, which leads to wrinkles and fine lines. Thus, you should limit your intake of alcohol because it can cause wrinkles and fine lines in the long run.
